The integration of multicultural architectural elements characterize Taiwanese residences built between 1940 to 1980. Lin had lived in this type of old-fashioned Taiwanese housing during her childhood. These residential elements have not only become a part of her childhood memories, but also gradually constructed her sense of belonging towards home and the land. Therefore, dwellings have since become Lin’s objects of interest. She noticed that the architectural styles of these Taiwanese buildings are collages and recombinations of multicultural symbols. Affected by the impact of globalization and colonialism, the architecture of many Third World countries embody this peculiar and organic collaged style. Lin’s mission is to discover Taiwan's unique collaging aesthetic. By recomposing architectural elements into a suitcase, Lin interprets her sense of belonging and observation of the local housing, while contradictorily compensating her inner craving for nomadism.



1940~80年代的台灣住宅常常具有多元文化的建築元素。年幼的時候,林晏竹也住在這樣的台灣舊屋。這些住宅的元素,成了童年的記憶,也無形地建構創作者出對家,乃至土地的歸屬感。
因此,居所成了創作者關注的對象;她注意到台灣的寓居有如多元文化符號的重組拼貼體。受全球化與殖民的影響,許多第三世界國家的住家多半呈現這樣奇異並且有機地拼貼狀態,而林晏竹企圖從中尋找出屬於台灣的特有的拼貼美學。以將住宅現成物重組成旅行箱的方式,林晏竹透過此作詮釋了自身對家的歸屬感與在地居所觀察,卻也同時矛盾地補償了創作者自我內在對於遊牧的渴望。
